BASELNEWS 2007Glycine AIRMAN 7 Plaza Mayor: generous, but yet modest
The AIRMAN 7, with its three independent movements and probably the most well-known and largest watch by Glycine, is being extended: the AIRMAN 7 Plaza Mayor. The three movements are fitted into a curved Carré case, so that despite the impressive size of 53 by 53 mm the watch still rests ergonomically on the wrist. Its square shape, the setting of the crowns and the carbon fibre dials give the Plaza Mayor a very graphic appearance and a modest elegance, and – as always with Glycine – excellent legibility; the four time zones are visible at a glance. “I enjoyed working on this watch,” said Katherina Brechbühler from Glycine Watch. “Making this size wearable and generously making use of materials but still limiting myself to the basics – that is what fascinated me.“
The AIRMAN 7 Plaza Mayor is fitted with beautifully worked, engraved movements that are visible through the domed glass case back. An additional detail: the solid part of the domed case back is sealed with blued screws. The Plaza Mayor is available with black, dark red or dark blue carbon fibre dials.
The 18 carat gold luxury model will soon be available. The owner of this model will be wearing a lot of precious metal on his arm – without appearing showy. The perfect mixture of generosity and understatement has been achieved with this watch. You can also recognize this when you turn the watch over: the Plaza Mayor Gold’s three movements are gold-plated and fitted with blue screws; the gold-plated oscillating weights are decorated with embossed engravings.
