Change of ownership Altus Uhren Holding AG takes over Glycine

The Altus Uhren Holding AG, will be taking over the long-established watchmaking company Glycine Watch SA from 1 April 2011. The new CEO will be Stephan Lack. He believes in the importance of continuity. The owner of Glycine, Katherina Brechbühler, has decided to hand the company over to a new owner and to alter her career path. The new owner will be the company Altus Uhren Holding AG, based in Muri near Berne. This company is entirely Swiss-owned.

Back to the Roots Glycine's new Incursore models

When Glycine first introduced its Incursore model 12 years ago, it was considered one of the precursors of the big-size watches with a diameter of 44 mm. This plain and simple timepiece was immediately successful in Italy and soon afterwards gained a foothold in other markets. Thanks to its clear design which is reminiscent of the military watches of the 1930s, the "intruder" has become one of Glycine's most popular model ranges.

Former owner and manager of Glycine Watch SA Farewell to Hans Brechbühler

The former owner and manager of Glycine Watch SA died at the age of 82 on 19 June 2010. Hans Brechbühler was an enthusiastic achiever who loved his work and relished contact with other people. Up until recently, he could be found working at Glycine every day. However, his illness then forced him to slow down and take things easier.

After launching the INCURSORE Power Reserve in 2006 Glycine now presents a very special further development of this watch with power reserve display: The INCURSORE Power Reserve DLC. Its case is treated with Diamond-Like-Carbon, DLC for short. The diamond-like carbon coating gives the satin steel case an elegant, anthracite coloured appearance and makes it extremely resistant. DLC is several times harder than steel.

Beautiful, strong and very safe is a short description of the extraordinary diver watch LAGUNARE LCC 3000. Thanks to its elaborately designed case, it is water-resistant up to 1000 metres. The high class, refined, COSC-certified movement is protected by a coat of soft iron, giving the watch enormous resistance against magnetic fields – much stronger than official standards for antimagnetic watches require. The extra strong sapphire glass is domed.

Three time zones Glycine AIRMAN Chrono 08: the perfect world time watch

This watch leaves nothing to be desired: the AIRMAN Chrono 08 displays three time zones, has an integrated chronograph – and looks fantastic. Because of its functionality, it is also visually appealing. For example, the 24-hour rotating bezel which is a novelty for Glycine as it lies under the sapphire glass: it is separated into a lower white part for the day and an upper black part for the night. Thanks to the protection provided by the crystal, it was possible to use luminous material, like on the dial.

BASELNEWS 2008 Glycine AIRMAN 7: big lightweights

They are big, the AIRMAN 7 models by Glycine – very big. Three independent movements combined in one watch need their space. Glycine’s new watches prove that largeness does not necessarily have to mean a lot of weight. Thanks to the high quality materials titanium and carbon fibre, the round AIRMAN 7 and the square AIRMAN 7 Plaza Mayor weigh about a quarter to a third less than their predecessors. The case of the four new models is made of the very sturdy, lightweight and corrosion-resistant titanium.

Play goes on! Two new INCURSORE Black Jacks by Glycine

Following the successful launch of the INCURSORE Black Jack range from Glycine in autumn 2007, two new models have now been introduced. Playful but simple – and very black. A deep black case and dial with white luminous features and splashes of red: this is the colour scheme of the INCURSORE Black Jack watches from Glycine. The two first limited editions were so popular that CEO Katherina Brechbühler decided to create two new models, both of which continue to play on the number 21, the most important number in Black Jack.

“We’re waiting for a new AIRMAN with a diameter of 42 millimetres,” announce Glycine experts and aficionados. And now the wait is finally over: the AIRMAN Special II with 24-hour display has arrived. A watch for purists. The design of the new AIRMAN Special II harks back to the pioneering times when Glycine developed its first world time watches. That was back in the 1950s.

BASELNEWS 2007 Glycine AIRMAN 7 Plaza Mayor: generous, but yet modest

The AIRMAN 7, with its three independent movements and probably the most well-known and largest watch by Glycine, is being extended: the AIRMAN 7 Plaza Mayor. The three movements are fitted into a curved Carré case, so that despite the impressive size of 53 by 53 mm the watch still rests ergonomically on the wrist.

Good value Glycine COMBAT 07 Automatic: functional and clean lines

The COMBAT 07 Automatic looks every inch a classic and embodies everything that a functional quality watch should be "and nothing more, quite consciously," says Katherina Brechbühler. The lines of the new automatic COMBAT are clean in every respect, from the casing to the dial and the hands. The ergonomics have improved over those of its predecessor, which is why the watch fits the wrist even better.

The primary objective when choosing components for the Glycine COMBAT SUB is robustness, and thus diver safety. The case is made of high-grade stainless steel, furnished with scratch-resistant sapphire glass and a protected screw-down crown. With its large dot in the centre o the dial, the INCURSORE Arco II stands out straight away. The hour is displayed on this dot with an extremely short hand. On the outer rings, the colours stand out just as clearly as those of the ‘centre dot’, and there is both a scale of 5 to 60 and a countdown scale of 60 back down to 0.“This is a dial that gives a strong technical impression,” says CEO Katherina Brechbühler.

Unique brother AIRMAN SST 06 D24: Rarity for Aficionados

The unique brother of the AIRMAN SST 06 is the Double 24, the design of the case is also influenced by the “Pumpkin” from the 60’s. It simultaneously displays three optional 24 hour time zones – very seldom found on the watch market. This is made possible by the double 24 hour display from the centre, complemented by an independent rotating bezel which is set by a crown at two o’clock.

New quartz line Glycine is expanding its watch-collection

The almost 100 year old Glycine Watch SA is known for its mechanical watches and simplicity in design. Now, they are launching a quartz line – with watches that are typical for Glycine: with a clear design, high functionality and good quality. Stylistically the first model, the Iguana Quartz, bears distinctive characteristics of the globally favoured mechanical Combat family by Glycine. Other new quartz models within the Combat line will be introduced step by step by 2007.
