One Year to GoOMEGA's London 2012 Countdown Clock

The OMEGA Countdown Clock in Greenwich has been unveiled in time to celebrate "One Year to Go" to the start of the Games on the 27th July 2011. Time has written a large part of the long and fascinating history of Greenwich, England. The Royal Observatory Greenwich, home of the Prime Meridian of the World (0° longitude) and of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), is located there.

In 2012, time will take on added significance in Greenwich as it hosts some of the events of the London Olympic Games in Greenwich Park. Ticking away the seconds, minutes, hours and days until the excitement begins is the Countdown Clock installed right on the Prime Meridian Line by OMEGA, the Official Timekeeper of the Games.

Seb Coe, Chairman of the London 2012 Organising Committee said: “It is very fitting that a countdown clock be installed at the place where time begins. The OMEGA Countdown Clock will allow the Greenwich residents and Park users to countdown the days to the Opening Ceremony. Greenwich Park is one of the most beautiful locations in London and it’s fantastic that people will have yet another reason to go and visit it.

It is the second official OMEGA Countdown Clock based in London, following the launch of the Trafalgar Square-based clock which was unveiled 500 days ahead of the Opening Ceremony.

The event was attended by LOCOG Chair Seb Coe, Mayor of London Boris Johnson, OMEGA ambassador and world champion heptathlete Jessica Ennis and President of OMEGA Stephen Urquhart, and the clock will now be counting down to the evening of the 27 July 2012 in days, hours, minutes and seconds.

The clock's design is intended to capture and reflect the spirit of a dynamic and diverse region which is defined as much by its history and tradition as by its contemporary outlook. The clock's size, shape and colours communicate the contrasting landscape in Sochi which features both majestic mountains and the Black Sea. Other design elements include bold imagery that integrates designs that represent the country's cultural and artistic history.
