On Monday August 19, 2013, German watchmaker Glashütte Original welcomed 28 new apprentices to the start of their training at the “Alfred Helwig” School of Watchmaking. Of 28 apprentices, 24 will learn the profession of watchmaking and 4 will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to become toolmakers.

Former railroad control center Clattering Machines instead of Popping Corks at NOMOS

The heavy trucks that parked for days in front of the former train station in Glashütte were a small attraction for the area. The head office of NOMOS Glashütte is here, together with administration and production. However, the manufactory NOMOS doesn’t just own the station, it has also recently acquired the former railroad control center, including the arcade passages.

A traditional topping-out ceremony took place at the construction site of the German Watch Museum Glashütte on June 28, 2007, celebrating the end of another important construction phase. After clearing away one complete floor and completing a new attic, the point has now been reached where the historical state of the building can once again be attained.

On March 14, Glashütte Original invited workers to a traditional “building celebration” in order to mark the end of the first construction phase and to thank all of those involved for their efforts. Because of the mild winter, the demolition work, the gutting of the building’s interior as well as the foundation draining proceeded rapidly and were completed on time.

The gonging of a vintage Glashütte grandfather clock by Karl W. Höhnel at exactly 12:00 on March 16, 2006, in the Glashütte Original manufactory’s atrium marked the historical establishment of the German Watch Museum Glashütte - Nicolas G. Hayek foundation. For this occasion, CEO of Swatch Group AG, Nick Hayek, jr., journeyed from Switzerland to join local mayor Frank Reichel and Glashütte Original’s managing director Dr. Frank Müller to seal the foundation’s establishment by signing the official paperwork.
