Double Win for the Victory Team in Dubai – Edox Official Timekeeper
Powerboats are the Formula 1 of the oceans. Traditionally, Dubai hosts the final two races of the World Powerboat Championship. Once again, the Swiss watch manufacturer Edox was official timekeeper of the 2008 Emirates & Dubai Duty Free Grand Prix in December. With a double win in the penultimate race of the season, the Victory Team could celebrate its 8th championship in 16 years in Dubai.
With an outstanding performance, Mohammed Al Marri and Nadir Bin Hendi won the Grand Prix in their home country in Victory 1. Second place went to their team colleagues Abdullah Al Mehairbi and Jean-Marc Sanchez in Victory 7. Khalfan Harib, the managing director of the Victory Team and former pilot was full of praise for the boys in blue after their success at the Mina Seyahi Grand Prix, which secured the Dubai team their eighth championship before the end of the season. Harib, who led the team to their first of many trophies, won his first world title as a driver in 1993 and his second in 2000 as a throttleman.
For a year now, Edox is partner of the Qatar team of Prince Hassan, the emirate on the Persian Gulf. Working in close cooperation with the Class 1 engineers, Edox is developing a new form of chronometry for this purpose based on satellite and GPS technology. These high-tech measuring instruments must meet exceptionally demanding criteria with regard to their water resistance, shock resistance and precision. This is a considerable technical challenge for the horologists from Les Genevez in the Swiss Jura.
