BASELNEWS 2011Gucci Coupé: Five easy-to-wear watches
Gucci Timepieces is pleased to announce the addition of the Gucci Coupé to its range of luxury men’s watches. Representing a new direction in watch design, Creative Director Frida Giannini has conceived a timepiece that reflects the current appeal of wristwatches with a vintage allure. The rounded-square case in sun-brushed stainless steel and the range of attractive colors echo 1960s styling.
The Gucci Coupé is available in five easy-to-wear variants, all in the larger 40mm size.
The signature brushed stainless steel case comes with a matching steel bracelet, teamed with a bronze or black dial. A sporty version is seen in the steel case with the iconic green-red-green web, with a coordinating white dial. Steel and leather variants boast unusual black or white perforated calfskin straps, reminiscent of the interior styling of sports cars. White leather is teamed with a cobalt blue dial for a fresh, nautical look, whilst the sober black version is finished off with eye-catching white overstitching.
Beautiful, sports-inspired detail
One of the most distinctive features of this easy-to-wear timepiece is the angled interior slope that encircles the dial. The glass top, the rounded case and case back also reflect these curves.
Part of the allure of the watch Gucci Coupé lies in its beautiful detailing. The dial bears the Gucci diamond pattern and “G” outline shadow, which sets off the superluminova indexes. The Gucci green-red-green web at 3 o’clock provides an added flash of colour, whilst the oversized hands and large numerals at 3 and 9 o’clock contribute to the retro aesthetic. The essential timekeeping functionality of the Grande date and small second counter are distinctively sporty. Other Gucci motifs include the G-initialled crown and GG signature on the strap lining.
