The Story Behind the WatchOris ProDiver Chronograph
Developing a new watch is always a huge challenge, with many factors to take into consideration. When the watch is the first of its kind – an innovation – even more time and effort must be invested in design and testing. The Oris ProDiver Chronograph is an innovation.
The world of professional diving is unknown to most of us. The repair, salvage, rescue and maintenance work carried out by intrepid teams of divers at great depths under the sea is not widely publicised or well known. As a result, no watch with a sufficient level of safety or functionality had been produced to meet the needs of professional divers. Oris saw a challenge and set out to find a solution.
The ProDiver employs the latest Oris innovation: the Rotation Safety System (RSS). Oris has applied for a patent for this new development. Only when the outer bezel is lifted can the timer scale be released and the dive time set. Then, the bezel can be relocked to the case to ensure the timer cannot be moved accidentally. The vulcanised rubber grip on the bezel ensures that the RSS is easy to operate and the timer scale is made of scratch resistant ceramic – ideal for professionals at work.
The automatic helium valve at 9 o’clock and the high level of water resistance (100 bar/ 1000m) are also essential for professionals. The safety barrier to which the crown and pushers can be screwed guarantees the water resistance of the watch. This – and the rubber bezel - also helps to protect the large 51mm titanium case from knocks. For divers working internationally, the case back of the ProDiver carries a metres to feet conversion scale for rapid calculation of depths.
Not only suitable for professional use, but also stylish and wearable out of the water, the Oris ProDiver comes in a presentation set with a replacement titanium strap, strap changing tools and a certificate containing details of this latest innovation in the world of professional divers’ watches. The set comes in a special waterproof case.
