OMEGA and the GoodPlanet Foundation BASELWORLD 2013: The OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet
It is OMEGA’s enduring and rich maritime legacy that inspired the creation of the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet, an innovative wristwatch that serves as a tribute to the GoodPlanet Foundation and the positive work it does for our environment and underwater ecosystems.
From the development of the first true dive watch in 1932 to our sponsorship of an acclaimed environmental film, OMEGA’s connection to Earth’s watery surface is deeply-rooted and a defining element of our brand.
OMEGA and The GoodPlanet Foundation – Supporting our oceans together
The GoodPlanet Foundation, founded in 2005, strives to inspire every person on Earth to live lifestyles that respect our shared environment. The organisation promotes optimistic solutions for sustainable development and wholeheartedly encourages each individual to act for the planet. OMEGA and GoodPlanet formed their partnership in 2011; together they aim to raise awareness of the beauty and majesty of the oceans, the dangers they face and the importance of preserving and appreciating these natural resources.
OMEGA has committed a portion of the proceeds from its Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet to fully funding a project to preserve the mangroves and seagrasses in Southeast Asia and educating the local population about the conservation of these important natural resources that are such a critical part of a balanced ecosystem.
For your wrist, for the seas
The Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet features a bold blue lacquered dial with applied indexes. The polished and facetted rhodium-plated hour and seconds hands and aluminium-fashioned GMT hand are coated with white Super-LumiNova which emits a blue light. The rhodium-plated minute hand is also coated with Super-LumiNova but emits a green light, as does the dot on the diving bezel. There is also a date window at the 3 o’clock position. A domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal – enhanced with anti-reflective treatment on both sides – protects the dial from damage above and below the water’s surface. The bright orange GMT scale on the bezel ring and central GMT hand make it possible to track two separate time zones, ideal for the frequent traveller who enjoys taking in the beauty of the oceans, lakes and rivers first-hand.
The lacquered orange 24-hour scale stands out on the bi-directional polished blue bezel ring, a feature which complements the helium-escape valve located at 10 o’clock on the brushed and polished 43.5 mm stainless steel case. The caseback, engraved with “GoodPlanet Foundation”, also features a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, making it possible to see OMEGA’s revolutionary technology within.
Blending innovation and conservation
Inspired by the diverse and captivating colours of the ocean, this timepiece is available with a classic stainless steel bracelet, or a sporty blue rubber strap. Like all of OMEGA’s Seamaster Planet Ocean timepieces, this model was designed with extreme adventurers in mind and is water resistant to 60 bar (600 metres / 2000 feet).
At its heart is the exclusive OMEGA Co-Axial calibre 8605, a self-winding movement with a three-level Co-Axial escapement and Si14 silicon balance spring. This remarkable timepiece performs with such reliability and accuracy that it is offered with a full four-year warranty.
The OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet, is a tribute to the rewarding partnership OMEGA and the GoodPlanet Foundation have formed and the organisation’s achievements in environmental conservation.
