Great atmosphere for celebrationsCrans-Montana and Hublot celebrate 100 years since the first ski race!

The celebration of the first serious downhill ski race at Crans-Montana, under the patronage of Hublot and the six communes of the Haut-Plateau, took place this Sunday, 3 April, in radiant sunshine, and was a great success. 60 teams (of 3, 4 or 5 people) - 266 highly motivated participants - took part in the Anniversary celebrations in honour of the pioneers of skiing.

A large crowd gathered at the finish line at the foot of the "Nationale" to applaud the participants, most of whom were kitted out in authentic ski-wear and equipment of the era. During the ski party held after the sporting event, the President of the Organising Committee, Marius Robyr, expressed his joy at the committed involvement of the teams, who had come from all over the canton as well as much further afield. As announced, no chronometer was used to time this downhill event, which began at the Plaine-Morte. However, a jury of eight people awarded points to each team based on clearly defined criteria. Clothing, equipment and skiing style were all subject to scrutiny.

Victory went to the "Tagwohl" team (Markus Murmann, Pierre-Yves Mérieult, Ewald Steiner and Pierre Bagnoud). 2nd: "Mitchafo" (Mylène Théodoloz, Sophie Genoud and Mathieu Gasser). 3rd: "Les Revenants" (The Comebacks) (Jean-Yves Rey, Jean-Daniel Masserey, Florent Troillet, Pierrre-Marie Taramarcaz, Guy Richard).
