On 27 March 2011, at the same time as Baselworld this year, the new Formula 1 season kicks off with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne - and for the first time Armin Strom will be involved. The Russian-British Marussia Virgin Racing team, in its second F1 season, has selected the Bienne Manufacture as its "Official Timing Partner".
Serge Michel, CEO at Armin Strom, talks about a logical collaboration. Just like Marussia Virgin Racing, Armin Strom is a young, dynamic brand, setting new quality standards and combining high-tech with craftsman values. “And like Marussia Virgin Racing, we’re not afraid to blaze new trails”, explains Michel. The ARMIN Racing brand stands for the modern design of watch movements, without abandoning the important traditional values.
In a sport, where a split second can mean the difference between winning or losing, a partnership between a racing stable and a watch manufacturer is a logical step: both partners are experts in their timing fields: time is everything for them. Even beyond this aspect, there are many synergies, according to Graeme Lowdon, Sporting Director of Marussia Virgin Racing, particularly in the areas of innovation and technology.
The first result of the collaboration between Armin Strom and Marussia Virgin Racing is a series of three custom-built watches in the racing stable’s team colours, black, red and white. Materials used in the construction of racing cars are also used in the manufacture of these watches.
