Exclusive highlight

BASELNEWS 2010Jaermann & Stübi created a watch from the golf clubs of Seve Ballesteros

The legendary golfer Seve Ballesteros and Jaermann & Stübi have created a second exclusive highlight based on the company's latest golf watch: a watch whose case is forged from the golf clubs with which Seve Ballesteros won his last golf tournament, the Spanish Open, in 1995. Each watch case of the limited 50-piece series can be traced to one of the irons with which Seve played, making this unique watch even more special. The Spanish Open is part of the PGA European Tour and was won by Seve Ballesteros with 274 strokes (14 under par). It was Seve's last victory on the tour and on his home territory he'd beaten prominent players in this tournament such as Bernhard Langer, Howard Clark, Collin Montgomery and his compatriot José Maria Olazabal.

The irons 2 to 9 that he played as well as the Pitching Wedge and Sand Wedge have been transformed into 50 watch cases for the "Seve Ballesteros II" limited series. The sophisticated, multi-phase process was developed in collaboration with the best metallurgic specialists.

First, the club heads had to be analyzed to obtain an alloy that met the requirements for a watch case and facilitated cavity-free casting. After extensive testing, the clubs were divided into portions and melted, so that a cast piece was obtained from each club, so that the clubs could later be matched with the watch cases. Subsequently, the cast pieces were forged into watch cases at a temperature of roughly 1200° C. This process made it possible to match each watch with one of the irons with which Severiano Ballesteros won the Spanish Open in 1995. Thus, each owner of a "Seve Ballesteros" can take a specific iron along on his golf rounds.

The "Seve Ballesteros II" model by Jaermann & Stübi is equipped with an automatic movement as well as course timer and GMT functions. A patented shock absorber with a flexible adjustment shaft cushions the impacts during a golf game and protects the movement. The dial, the inner bezel and all packaging are in dark blue, the favorite color of Seve Ballesteros. Each watch is individually numbered and the iron used for the watch case is engraved on the back. A certificate signed by Seve Ballesteros also attests to the authenticity of the irons used. The "Seve Ballesteros II" model will be available at selected watchmakers and jewelers for the price of CHF 19,500.00.
