Longines Grosser Preis von Baden 2011Successful debut of Longines as title sponsor at the Iffezheim racecourse

Longines, the Swiss watchmaking brand with a long and illustrious history, can be proud of its successful debut as title sponsor at the Iffezheim racecourse. On Sunday, elegance and high-level performances were on full view during the internationally renowned Grosse Preis von Baden, the most important event on Germany’s racing calendar. The 2011 Longines Grosse Preis von Baden was won by the German Andrasch Starke on Danedream.

Sunday proved to be a fitting end to the “Grand Week” at the Iffezheim/Baden-Baden racetrack. The much anticipated climax, the Longines Grosse Preis von Baden, not only thrilled even the most demanding spectators but was a fine example of horse racing at its heart-stopping best. This Group 1 competition, which is the main event on Germany’s racing calendar and highly regarded both at home and abroad, is run over 2,400 m and has prize money totalling 250,000 Euros. It is also one of only seven races in this category to be held in Germany.

The proud winner of the Longines Grosse Preis von Baden was Andrasch Starke from Germany on Danedream. Second and third places went to Karoly Kerekes and William Buick respectively. As a partner of the Grosse Preis and official timekeeper at the Iffezheim race track, Longines was proud to present the winner with a watch from its sport collection. Representatives from the Swiss watchmaking company were clearly delighted that the start of this new partnership had been such a resounding success. The Grosse Preis joins a long list of prestigious equestrian events that enjoy Longines sponsorship. These include Royal Ascot, the Dubai World Cup, the Kentucky Derby, the Singapore Gold Cup and the Prix de Diane Longines in Chantilly.

Guests in the Longines box also had the opportunity to marvel at the official watch of the Grosse Preis von Baden, the Longines DolceVita. This collection, which takes its name from the joy of life so synonymous with Italy, is a modern classic. The new models are a blend of stainless steel and rose or yellow gold. With a DolceVita watch on their wrist, ladies cannot fail to make a sophisticated and head-turning entrance, whether at the Iffezheim racecourse or elsewhere.
