New Highlights, Classic Values Montblanc at the SIHH 2002

Montblanc – member of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) since 1997 and in the meantime successfully established within the watch market – in 2002 presented 56 new models, including two completely new lines. With the ”Profile Collection”, Montblanc for the first time unveiled a collection of rectangular ladies’ and men’s watches.

The ”Summit Collection” is a series of new stainless steel wristwatches with exceptionally flat casings, which add a pure and modern look to the Montblanc watch collections. Thus the manufacturer of exquisite writing instruments, watches, leather goods and accessories presented new wristwatch collections that differ strikingly from Montblanc’s previous, rather traditional range: new shapes, new materials, and a new look.

Premiere for the Montblanc Profile Collection: Montblanc’s first collection of rectangular wristwatches

The ”Profile Collection” is Montblanc’s first collection of rectangular wristwatches – a new direction for the Montblanc watch collections. In keeping with the Montblanc brand philosophy and tradition, the Profile Collection is crafted at Montblanc Montre SA in Le Locle, Switzerland, according to the high standards of traditional watch making.

The Montblanc Chrono Quartz Profile is elegantly simple: a mat stainless steel casing, a silver face with two Roman numerals and three rectangular displays for the chrono functions, a stainless steel bracelet with a safety fastener. The Montblanc Profile Collection includes two chronographs with quartz movements, two large models and twelve ladies’ models, among them six jewellery watches. To suit all personal tastes, the watches are available either with  metal, grained calfskin or alligator bracelets.

Elegant, feminine, rectangular: the Montblanc Lady Profile Collection

The Montblanc Lady Profile Collection with ist new rectangular design presents two models with a ”Logomania” dial that creatively plays with the Montblanc logo. The beige dial is matched with a grained calfskin strap available either in elegant gold or fashionable bordeaux. The striking, feminine design of this exclusive stainless steel wristwatch is specifically targeted at young and fashion-conscious clients.

Slim shape, high standard: Montblanc Summit Collection

A further new addition in 2002 to Montblanc’s collection of watches was the ”Summit Collection” of ultra-flat wristwatches. In comparison to Montblanc’s previous range of classic watches, the slim casings of the Summit Collection are a striking new alternative.

The Montblanc Summit Collection unites tradition with a contemporary feel. These slim stainless steel casings, reduced to the essentials and almost architectural in their purity, encapsulate all the precision and peerless quality of Swiss watchmaking craftsmanship. The collection is available with a stainless steel wristband or a fine calfskin strap. The simple elegance of the dials, available in a selection of tasteful colours, gives these watches an very special appearance. Although this is a new shape for the brand, it is deeply permeated with Montblanc’s brand philosophy. Created for those who appreciate clear, pure design and understated elegance.

Golden sports: Montblanc Sport Chrono Solid Gold

At SIHH 2002, Montblanc unveiled the latest addition to the Montblanc Sport Collection, which was successfully first launched at SIHH 2000. The new golden highlight of this collection is an automatic chronograph made of solid gold. The casing crafted of 18 carat gold with a rotating bezel in relief is water-resistant to a depth of 200 m. The crown and bottom are screwed, while the white face displays the date, hours, minutes and has a small second. The model exists with gold bracelet or alligator strap.

The Montblanc Sport Chrono Solid Gold is an eloquent and unique timepiece - a watch that creates an impression through its design, the fine material of which it is made, its wide range of functions and exclusive craftsmanship.

Sensuous timekeeping: Montblanc Star Steel Lady Jewellery

A rose-coloured face with diamonds to mark the hours, a colour-coordinated alligator strap and a diamond-studded bezel - the ”Star Steel Lady Jewellery Collection”, which Montblanc presented at SIHH 2002, is the brand’s first diamond-studded stainless steel medium chronograph for ladies. With this collection, which is also available with a silver or violet mother-of-pearl face and matching blue or violet alligator strap, Montblanc has unveiled a new and breathtaking blend of exquisite materials and masculine spirit. The flawless craftsmanship and a Swiss-made chrono quartz movement which is water-resistant to a depth of 30 m perfect this timepiece.

Classic style with a touch of avant-garde: Montblanc Star Carbon Collection

When classic Montblanc Star design teams up with a modern material such as carbon fibre the result is something very special indeed. At last year’s SIHH 2001, the Montblanc Star Carbon Watch Collection was first introduced. In 2002, this winning symbiosis of classic style and modern outlook has produced the Montblanc Carbon Quartz Chronograph XL, which with a 38 mm casing is significantly larger than last year’s model. XL – extra sporty, extra dynamic and extra masculine: the casing, water resistant to 30 m, of mat grey stainless steel; the carbon dial with tachymeter scale; a bombé sapphire glass with anti-reflex coating; and the carbon bracelet with a rhodium-plated buckle. A chrono quartz movement with stopwatch function, date display and hands for tenths of seconds, seconds and minutes underscores the precision of this extraordinary watch, which is handcrafted in Montblanc’s own Swiss watchmaking factory.

An island in time: Montblanc Montre SA in Le Locle, Switzerland

Montblanc Montre SA, located in an Art Nouveau villa in Le Locle, Switzerland, has been the site where all Montblanc watch collections have been crafted since they were first introduced in 1997. Here, excellent craftsmanship and the best European tradition of watchmaking are united to manufacture all Montblanc Watch Collections, which by mid 2002 will comprise nearly 100 models.

The success of the Montblanc watches shows that Montblanc has attained a secure place in the circle of renowned watchmakers and has become an important partner for jewellers. The ever-increasing demand for Montblanc watches and their rising significance within the Montblanc product range has necessitated an extension of the production facilities. In 2002, work commenced on a new production building, which will provide working space for more than 30 new employees as from the end of 2003.

The town of Le Locle in the Swiss region of Jura - the birthplace of traditional Swiss watchmaking – was deliberately selected as the production site for Montblanc’s watch collections in order to guarantee the same high standards of craftsmanship traditionally associated with the brand Montblanc in the Montblanc watch collections. Each of these costly timepieces, like each Montblanc Meisterstück writing instrument, represents a passionate statement of Montblanc’s belief in traditional craftsmanship  - manufactered now and in the future in Le Locle by master horologists according to watchmaking traditions, right down to the very detail.
