Admiral’s Cup Legend 42CORUM

BASELNEWS 2011A classic new line: CORUM Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 & Admiral’s Cup Legend 38

Since its creation in 1960, the Admiral’s Cup epitomizes the ultimate Corum sports watch. For over half a century, this robust and virile timepiece has also embodied the brand’s tribute to the maritime world, to sailing and sailors. In 2011, Corum is unveiling a complement to this legendary collection by presenting two slender and elegant watches: The Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 and the Admiral’s Cup Legend 38.

The Admiral’s Cup collection has forged its sporting legend on oceans the world over for the past 50 years. Its twelve-sided bezel and its nautical pennants have formed an iconic family of Admiral’s Cup models. In 2011, this collection is welcoming two new models lapping gently against the shores of classical elegance. The new classical variations on the Admiral’s Cup theme are distinguished first and foremost by their size: 38 mm for the ladies’ model, and 42 mm for men. These newcomers thus feature sizes that are smaller than the collection’s sporting versions, and a new design, while remaining loyal to a sole philosophy: that of an understated, classical and elegant watch preserving the distinctive signature codes of the original Admiral’s Cup. The result is that these new classics are infused with a spirit of elegance and proudly proclaiming their sporting origins in a uniquely refined manner. The case has been redesigned with more strongly curved and rounded lugs, thus creating softer angles; while the back of the case is fitted with a transparent sapphire crystal to admire the mechanism inside.

Mother-of-pearl and diamonds

Ladies first with the Admiral’s Cup Legend 38, equipped with a mechanical automatic movement, Caliber CO 082, comprising an oscillating weight adorned with the Corum logo. Beating at a cadence of 28,800 vibrations per hour and endowed with a 42-hour power reserve, it drives the hour and minute hands as well as a date display at 3 o’clock – an elegantly restrained approach providing expressive scope for shimmering and refined dials. Crafted in mother-of-pearl from the Pinctada Maxima – a pearl oyster whose natural habitat is the Pacific Ocean - the black or gray dials of these ladies’ versions are adorned with nine hour-markers set with a diamond, rhodium, or gold according to the case material, and featuring applied 30 and 60 numerals at 6 and 12 o’clock. Available in steel or 18K red gold 5N – both topped by a bezel set with 72 full-cut diamonds totaling 0.58 carats, the Admiral’s Cup Legend models are graced by a satin strap with a safety-pusher folding clasp.

Classical elegance

The men’s model – the Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 – beats to the rhythm of Caliber CO395, a mechanical self-winding movement driving hours, minutes, small seconds and a date window at 3 o’clock. Beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, it has a 42-hour power reserve and features an oscillating weight engraved with the Corum name. The classic, technically oriented character of these timepieces is revealed through dials with a vertical guilloché motif for the steel and two-tone steel & gold versions, or barleycorn guilloché for the 18K red gold models. The Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 comes with a leather strap for the steel and steel & gold versions, or an alligator strap for the gold versions – both secured by a folding clasp. The steel and steel & gold models are also available with a new matching steel bracelet exclusively developed for this Admiral’s Cup Legend 42.
