Building celebrationConstruction Site Celebration: German Watch Museum Glashütte – Nicolas G. Hayek

On March 14, Glashütte Original invited workers to a traditional “building celebration” in order to mark the end of the first construction phase and to thank all of those involved for their efforts. Because of the mild winter, the demolition work, the gutting of the building’s interior as well as the foundation draining proceeded rapidly and were completed on time.

The construction work for the German Watch Museum Glashütte started on December 12, 2006 in the historic building of the former German Watchmakers’ School. At the beginning of March, invitations to tender for the structural work were issued and these were assigned at the end of that same month. At the beginning of April, an entire floor as well as the roof were then removed to reconstitute the historical state of the building.

The call for tenders for work on a new roof has also been carried out. Following the completion of the roof truss, a traditional topping-out ceremony is planned for the end of June 2007. The opening of the new experience-orientated museum is scheduled for May 2008, month of the 130th anniversary of the foundation of the German Watchmakers’ School.
