Start of a watchmaking careerThe new trainee year has begun at A. Lange & Söhne

Looking forward, the new manufactory building will be the workplace for the ten young women and eleven young men who have just embarked on their three-year training period at the Lange Watchmaking School.

On 26 August 2015, A. Lange & Söhne’s ultramodern new manufactory building was inaugurated in the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Two days earlier, Lange CEO Wilhelm Schmid welcomed the 21 new apprentices who had enrolled to train as watchmakers or toolmakers. “We have always placed great emphasis on promoting young talent,” Schmid said. “Since 1997, our Watchmaking School has been offering motivated youngsters artisanal and technical training that lives up to the constantly evolving standards of our manufactory.”

Overall, A. Lange & Söhne is currently mentoring 61 trainees, of whom 55 in watchmaking and six in toolmaking. The aspiring professionals benefit from excellent working conditions in the company’s campus building and guaranteed employment for those who have acquired the relevant theoretical and practical skills. Their perspectives are very bright. Today, most of the so far more than 120 graduates work in the watchmaking ateliers of the eminent manufactory, among them a master watchmaker who last year ranked among Saxony’s ten best virtuosos.
