Preview BASELWORLD 2013The Maverick: Four colours mark a new style

A contemporary wind has brought new changes to the Maverick of 2013. The watch now has a restyled and refined dial emphasizing readability, and the collection has a cast of bold new colours: chocolate, green, blue and red, mostly in monochrome.

The Maverick remains true to the codes and values of Victorinox Swiss Army, while leveraging these to assert a stronger and more audacious identity: among the offers is a two-tone bracelet (steel/gold PVD) and a gold PVD-coated steel case. All versions are powered by Swiss Made Ronda quartz movements.

Victorinox Swiss Army’s mission in 2013 is to bring a touch of lustre to one of the bestselling models in its catalogue without altering the identity codes that have made it successful. The Maverick remains the Maverick, with its lines and proportions unchanged. The affordable price is the same, too, but the watch has new audacity and freshness.

While the Maverick retains some of its sporty character, it also explores new territories, expressing a more urban character, marked in particular by mostly monochrome tones. The colours are emblematic of the style that the brand has been championing for several years now. This year, other colour combinations are also ventured, such as a gold PVD-coated steel case, and a two-tone metal bracelet in steel and gold PVD.

At Victorinox Swiss Army, creative inspiration is reflected in a series of subtle details which, when added together, contribute to a harmonious overall effect. Here, the bold evolution of the Maverick is first visible on the sleeker dial, which gives it greater readability. Some markings have been replaced by diamond polished indexes. Differences in depth and surface treatment - sandblasted and circular satin-polishing - provide more clarity and brilliance. Finally, the model comes in a new range of colours, with matching lacquered unidirectional bezels and, in some versions, matching rubber straps.

The first of the four new colours is a deep green, paired with two-tone gold PVD steel case and bracelet or a monochrome rubber strap. Next up is the blue version, with steel case and bracelet or blue rubber strap. The chocolate version has a gold PVD-treated steel case and bracelet, or a dark brown rubber strap. Each are available in two sizes: 43 mm and 34 mm. Finally, there is the red version, which directly echoes the Swiss Army Knife from Victorinox, emphasizing that the watches share the same heritage and values as the brand’s other products. This last variant is only available in 43 mm, with case and bracelet in stainless steel.

The four new colours in the collection - four tones borrowed from the Swiss landscape - profoundly mark the Maverick’s new identity. They express an ideal of purity and make the watch a companion perfectly in tune with modern life.
