An innovative movement and eye-catching designA new automatic chronograph: The Hamilton Pan Europ

The Hamilton Pan Europ is an automatic chronograph dedicated to the fascinating theme of changing times. Inspired by a Hamilton timepiece of the same name, originally introduced in 1971, the design of today’s watch takes a wistful look over its shoulder, while its functionality celebrates modernity to the full.

In both stature and nature, the Hamilton Pan Europ is set to play a leading role in the new “Modern Times” series by Hamilton.

Crafted for modernity

Powering today’s Hamilton Pan Europ is a technologically advanced, Swiss automatic chronograph movement, the Hamilton H31, based on the chronograph Valjoux. A slightly squared case, elegant blue dial and bezel backgrounds, plus coloured hands, make the Hamilton Pan Europ stand out from any crowd. Two chronograph counters stare out of the dial like knowledgeable eyes and the fine markings of the tachymeter confirm the watch’s intrinsic timekeeping competence.

Placed neatly at 6 o’clock, the date display completes the symmetrical picture. The robust 45 mm stainless steel case represents an unmistakably contemporary touch, with its ridged crown and two pushers adding a signature of craftsmanship. The strap is in sophisticated, fine brown leather and has a pattern comprising holes to remind of nostalgic pilot gloves.

History in the making

The Hamilton Pan Europ simultaneously celebrates the pre-quartz peak of mechanical watches in the 1970s and their huge popularity today. Its inspirational 1971 ancestor contained a Calibre 11 movement. This was developed by several companies comprising Hamilton/Büren in 1969 and was one of the world’s first automatic chronographs. Hamilton used the Calibre 11 for the first time in the 1971 version of the Hamilton Pan Europ. The new H31 movement stems from the Valjoux 7753, comprising three key modifications to increase accuracy, stability and power reserve, as well as to offer decorative possibilities for personalization to the brand.

Hamilton was founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA. Hamilton watches combine the American spirit with the unrivalled precision of the latest Swiss movements and technologies. Known for its innovative design, Hamilton has a strong foothold in Hollywood, with products appearing in over 350 films. The brand also boasts a strong aviation heritage. Hamilton is a member of the Swatch group, the largest watch manufacturer and distributor in the world with 160 production sites in Switzerland.

A selection of special edition Hamilton watches are created in the Hamilton Lab, a laboratory dedicated to developing highly innovative timepieces, which customers can reserve personally via an online platform www.hamilton-lab.com. An online university, created by Hamilton, is also the source of extensive information on the history, art and science of timekeeping.
