Rolex Submariner: one of the world’s most desirable watches
After many experiments the first special wristwatch for divers was launched by Rolex in 1953: The Rolex Submariner. Aside from the Day-Date, the Submariner is surely one of the most famous models of the Rolex watches and the perfect first step into the world of Rolex. The simple yet classic design, the robust case, the clearness of the display, a very good and precise movement with low maintenance costs are the characteristics that make the Rolex Submariner a true classic.
In the course of time, the Rolex Submariner has continually improved and optimized. The water resistance has been increased from initially 100m to currently 300m. In 1957, the case and the bezel were reinforced, in 1959, a crown guard was included. In the 1960s and 1970s, the watch still had plexi glass. In 1988, it was changed to sapphire crystal. In 2003, Rolex celebrated the Submariner's 50th anniversary by launching the Rolex Submariner anniversary edition on the basis of the Rolex Submariner Date. Its distinguishing features are the green bezel and a modified dial with larger hour markers. In view of a restrictive supply policy of Rolex, the anniversary model is hard to come by and is highly coveted by collectors in its original condition.
