(02/2014) For more than 40 years, British explorer Colonel John Blashford-Snell has proudly worn a Zenith el Primero chronograph on his expeditions across the world. It was first worn when he led The Scientific Exploration Society’s great British Trans-Americas mission in 1971 – 29,000 km from Alaska to the Tierra del Fuego (Land of Fire) through the previously impenetrable swampy jungle of the complete Darién Gap.

Pioneering watchmaker Raymond Weil dies at 87 in Geneva

(01/2014) Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil, who founded the family business that bears his name, has died on 26 January in Geneva, aged 87. Raymond Weil founded the luxury brand in 1976, when the Swiss watchmaking industry was in disarray due to the so-called “Quartz crisis” – during which electronic watchmaking methods resulted in a decline in traditional mechanical timepieces, which had been the speciality of Swiss craftsmen.
