Elegance and precision in Rome among celebrities and horse-goersLongines and the 79th CSIO Piazza di Siena

The famous Swiss watchmaker Longines, involved in equestrian sports for many years, was anew official partner and timekeeper of the 79th CSIO Piazza di Siena, which took place from 26 to 29 of May. Since the early days of its involvement in this field, the brand is proud to have taken part in over one hundred national and international equestrian events and to have been responsible for timing many competitions such as world championships, European championships and various other events organised by the CSIO and the Arab Equestrian League.

Famous for the elegance of its products, Longines will also be presenting The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph, a refined timepiece that perfectly embodies the precision and beauty of equestrian sports.

Thursday 26, the partner of the event Melissa Satta visited Longines’ stand posing for some pictures and on Saturday 28, Longines had been delighted to welcome Milly Carlucci and her husband Angelo Donati, Justine Mattera, Beppe Convertini, Giorgio Gobbi, Pietro Genuardi as well as the beautiful Nina Senicar, horsewoman and equestrian sports lover.

The Swiss watchmaker had also the great pleasure to partner with HippoGroup Roma Capannelle for the organization of the Fair Play award allocated this year to Roberto and Francesca Ariodli. Both ot them, father and daughter, have distinguished them in Piazza di Sienna: Francesca won a race at only 17 years, becoming the youngest winner of the competition, a record. Her father Roberto, six times champion of Italy and technical commissioner of the national team, was this year member of the national team and finished third for the Piccolo Gran Premio. At the second stage of the Longines Press Award for Elegance, the following horseriders were the most performing female and male riders in Rome:

Female horserider: Giulia Martinengo (ITA)
Male horserider: Nick Skelton (GBR)

The following two riders are leading the intermediate global ranking of the Longines Press Award for Elegance, which will be awarded at the CSIO Dublin on 8th August, 2010.

Female horserider: Christine McCrea (USA)
Male horserider: Eric Lamaze (CAN)

Each winner will receive a trophy, a set of two Longines watches and a cheque for CHF 20,000.

The CSIO Piazza di Siena was the perfect occasion for Longines to present a model that typifies the brand’s philosophy and slogan “Elegance is an attitude”. The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph embodies classical and refined beauty, its stainless steel case houses an exclusive self-winding caliber with a blue column-wheel that can be admired through the transparent back. This model displays a silvered dial with 13 indexes and offers the chronograph functions, central seconds sweep, 30-minutes and 12-hour counters. A dark brown alligator strap puts the finishing touch to this elegant watch.
