2010 Geneva International Music CompetitionMagnificent performance: The winner is Hyo Joo Lee

The Geneva International Music Competition is an event that enables young artists from around the world to reveal their musical talents. The two disciplines featured in the 64th edition were Oboe and Piano. Montres Breguet’s role in the competition is accompanied by a special “Coup de Coeur Breguet” prize that offers a finalist the opportunity of recording a CD with an orchestra.

This distinction, awarded by a jury selected by Montres Breguet SA, represents a valuable contribution to the laureate’s career and provides an additional springboard towards an international solo career. It was awarded this year to Hyo Joo Lee for her magnificent performance of two airs by Sergei Rachmaninoff and his Concerto N°2 in C minor, Op. 18.

She also studied under Françoise Thinat at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, and then with Matti Raekallio at the University for Music and Performing Arts of Hannover. At the age of 13, she won First Prize in the Cincinnatti World Piano Competition, followed by another First Prize in the Young Chopin Competition in Moscow. And this year Hyo Joo has won the “Coup de Cœur Breguet” award.

When a First Prize is awarded, Montres Breguet SA also gifts the laureate with a Breguet watch. This year, the First Prize was won by Mrs Mami Hagiwara, a native of Hiroshima, Japan, for her performance of Concerto in Sol Majeur.
