BASELNEWS 2010POLJOT: The first man in space is wearing a Basilika-watch

It was the 18th of March in 1965: for the first time in history, a human being overcame the force of gravity and entered into an unknown matter – open space. It was the Russian cosmonaut Alexey Leonov. Under his command the Russian spaceship Soyuz docked with the American spaceship Apollo, whose commander was T. Stafford, in 1975.

The new automatic watch Soyuz–Apollo of the brand Basilika is dedicated to this historical event. The edition is limited to 500 pcs. and manufactured by Poljot-V GmbH. Watch No. 1 of this series was given to Mr. Leonov as a present during his visit to the town of Alzenau on September 30th, 2009. A large logo pertaining to the Soyuz-Apollo mission, the edition number, a day-and-date as well as a world-time display are located on the dial of the robust stainless steel watch model. Leonov said: “As did the events back in 1975, this watch will connect time zones, continents, and people.”
