New Gallardo LP 560

BASELNEWS 20102010 FIA GT1 World Championship: Blancpain in Pole position

Blancpain is shifting up a gear by taking on the FIA World Championship in the GT1 category. The Manufacture in Le Brassus, in association with Reiter Engineering, will be competing as of next month with two Lamborghini Murciélago LP670 R-SV cars driven by multiple champion Peter Kox of the Netherlands and by European GT3 champion Christopher Haase. 10 races are scheduled and will take Blancpain to the world's finest circuits in Europe, as well as in the United Arab Emirates, in Africa and in South America.

This GT1 world championship is the latest of the great competitions organised by the Fédération Internationale Automobile, which already runs the Formula 1, WTTC and rally championships. FIA boss Jean Todt made the announcement personally in Paris a few days ago.

For Blancpain, which began its involvement in European motor-racing a little over a year ago with the “Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo”, this exceptional new partnership now represents a truly global challenge. This April, the watch manufacturer will be starting the second season of the Super Trofeo, from now on in parallel with that of the FIA GT1 championship. Blancpain President and CEO Marc A. Hayek will be taking the wheel of a new Gallardo LP 560. A total of 18 races are scheduled across Europe.
