LOG-Award 2009Lange customers patronises junior watchmakers in Glashuette

The Lange Owners Group (LOG) is an exclusive circle of Lange customers from all over the world, who are in permanent contact via the internet. They have taken a keen interest in the development of the Lange manufacture for years. On the occasion of a visit to Glashütte in March 2009, a donation for supporting the training of junior watch-makers was presented to the company founder Walter Lange by some members. After that the Lange Watchmaking School offered the second „LOG-award“ to all apprentices.

„Of our 31 apprentices, 19 took part in the competition“, confirms Katja König, training manager, with delight. They have spent their freetime in the past few weeks with pondering, drawing, calculating and noting down their ideas in order to design the ‘Lange watch of the future’. “The new design should in essence be a reflection of the Lange philosophy and carry it forward into the future“, says Katja König in explaining the purpose of the competition.

The members of the jury, consisting of Lange specialists, technolo-gists and construction engineers, were thrilled by the large number of exciting and intelligent ideas. Eric Geißler fascinated the jury with a new design version of the classic LANGE 1 model and took first prize. His visionary design, the LANGE „Lunar Orbit“, is a lady’s watch with a tonneau shaped case, a moon phase display, the typical Lange outsize date and a display of the power reserve. „It was a challenge for me, to accomodate all the typical characteristics of a LANGE 1 in a tonneau-case” the 21 year old apprentice explains. „This turned out to be difficult at several points due to the lesser width. In doing so, it was important for me to pay attention to the golden cut all the time.”

In 2004, Mario Karsch was the winner of the first LOG-award by presenting a „Striking clock with display of moon phase and starlit sky”. The former apprentice now works in the final assembly workshop of Lange.
