LonginesOfficial Watch of the 2009 Melbourne Cup Carnival

In 2009, Longines proudly continues its pivotal association with the Melbourne Cup Carnival; the premier racing event in the Southern Hemisphere, which gathered this year a crowd of 368,900 racing enthusiasts. As a perfect compliment to the internationally renowned Carnival, Longines proudly launched its exciting new ladies range, Longines PrimaLuna.

Longines debuted its association this year with the sponsorship of the ‘Longines Wakeful Stakes’ race which was televised both domestically and internationally on Derby Day.  High profile trainer, Bart Cumming’s horse Faint Perfume won this race and this provided further media coverage during the presentation ceremony. Bart Cummings, along with the jockey and the owner of Faint Perfume all received Longines watches with their trophy.

Another high profile Carnival event that Longines again sponsored was the ‘Fashions on the Field’ at Flemington.  This event has established its place as Australia’s largest and most prestigious outdoor fashion event.  Hosted by internationally renowned fashion designer, Jeff Banks, the event received blanket media coverage with the finals announced on Oak’s Day. In a natural association of fashion and sporting elegance, Longines awarded both a female and male Grand Prize winners with Longines timepieces, which received impressive publicity.

Longines profile was further enhanced by the gifting of watches to the official Melbourne Cup Carnival ambassadors – Pia & Brad Miller and this provided fruitful pictorial media opportunities throughout the Carnival. Valued retailers and Longines watch wearing ambassadors were entertained in luxury and style in 2009 at the exclusive Terrace Restaurant precinct. Longines has already started the planning for the 2010 Melbourne Cup Carnival which will celebrate the 150th anniversary of this event.
