Tradition and performanceLongines once again Official Timekeeper at the prestigious Ascot Racecourse

For the third consecutive year, Longines will be the Official Timekeeper for Royal Ascot week. This year the Swiss watchmaker, whose slogan is “Elegance is an attitude”, will also be involved in the Fashion Show that will take place during the week. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the uncontested star of Bollywood and the brand’s Ambassador of Elegance for the past 10 years, will light up the Wednesday (17th June) with her radiant presence.

Throughout the world, Royal Ascot is held to be one of the most prestigious sporting events, combining tradition and performance for the last 300 years. Queen Anne saw the potential in horse-racing at Ascot and the first race, the Queen Anne Stakes, was held on 11 August 1711.

Today, Royal Ascot draws over 300,000 visitors during the week. In order to offer horse-racing enthusiasts and elegant ladies in their fancy hats the most agreeable surroundings possible, the racecourse was closed in 2004 for total refurbishment. It is now the most modern racecourse in Europe. The main work involved the construction of a new grandstand with a spectacular sun-roof. The grandstand is flooded with light and spectators who walk along the impressive gallery get the impression that they are outside.

For its part, Longines has almost a century of experience in equestrian sport, gained in every corner of the world. The famous Swiss watch manufacturer is at present Official Timekeeper for seven Nations Cup show jumping competitions in Europe as well as being the Official Partner of the Melbourne Cup Carnival in Australia. Not to mention Longines’ sponsorship of three Arab Equestrian League competitions (Dubai, Alexandria and Sharjah) in the Middle East.

Royal Ascot 2009 will be an even more elegant affair than usual since Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, one of the brand’s ambassadors of charm, will be present on Wednesday 17th June and will be attending the Royal Ascot Fashion Show. Once again the Royal Ascot Fashion Show will showcase some of Britain’s most talented designers, this year Amanda Wakeley, Mathew Williamson and Stephen Jones, will be displaying their latest creations. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the uncontested star of Bollywood and according to many the most beautiful woman in the world, will be able to soak up the charm of leading British fashion.

The beautiful star of India and Longines’ guests will also be able to discover three new ladies’ models from the Longines Master Collection. One has a jet black dial and a movement that shows the phases of the Moon, while the two others have simple, elegant white mother-of-pearl dials. The cases of two models are embellished with a host of diamonds.
