Double circumnavigation of the world!Endurance test for three watches from Mühle-Glashütte

With a double circumnavigation of the world Bernt Lüchtenborg, Yachtsman of the Year 2007, and three watches from Nautische Instrumente Mühle-Glashütte are taking up a murderous challenge: 65,000 nautical miles non-stop, more than 15 months of sea air and salt water as well as the icy temperatures of an Antarctic winter are awaiting man and material. The endurance test begins on 27 June 2009.

The focal point of the project named “sail2horizons“ and initiated by Lüchtenborg himself is on the one hand the sporting challenge, as no yachtsman before has ever managed to sail around the world in this form and on this route. Equally important however is the collecting of new ocean data for research into climate change. And last but not least: support for underprivileged children and young people, for whom donations will be collected as part of the campaign.

Nautische Instrumente Mühle-Glashütte is supporting Lüchtenborg’s sporting, scientific and social commitment financially as premium sponsor. Moreover, the extreme yachtsman is being equipped with two of the new Marinus watches, which have to prove their precision and suitability for the high seas during this circumnavigation. On board Lüchtenborg’s yacht will also be an emergency navigation system consisting of a marine chronometer from Mühle and a sextant.
