Partnership enters its fifth yearGlashütte Original and Berlinale celebrate their anniversary

Glashütte Original and the Berlinale are looking forward to the 65th Berlin International Film Festival, when they will also be celebrating the fifth year of their partnership. This collaboration has been continually strengthened since the partnership began in 2011.

The Saxon watchmaker, together with the “Perspektive Deutsches Kino” section of the Berlinale, has been awarding the “Made in Germany – Perspektive Fellowship” since 2012. Since 2014, Glashütte Original has also supported the “Retrospective” and “Homage” sections of the festival, which are dedicated to a different topic in the history of film and a well-known director each year.

The “Made in Germany – Perspektive Fellowship” 2015 awarded to Oskar Sulowski

On January 19, 2015, Glashütte Original and the “Perspektive Deutsches Kino” section awarded the “Made in Germany – Perspektive Fellowship” for the fourth time. The endowed prize of €15,000 is donated by the Saxon watch manufacturer every year and offers young German directors support in writing screenplays for their future film projects. From the projects submitted, the authors of which had a film in the “Perspektive Deutsches Kino” section the previous year, the jurors Angelina Maccarone (author and director), Jenny Schily (actress) and Jochen Laube (producer) picked the treatment “Rosebuds” by Oskar Sulowski. In addition to the prize money, the winner receives a statuette made by apprentices at the manufactory. Oskar Sulowski will also be assigned a mentor to help him further develop his project.

The “Made in Germany – Reden über Film” (Talking about film) series of talks, which is organised jointly by Glashütte Original and the “Perspektive Deutsches Kino” section, is also being continued this year. During these talks, filmmakers will introduce current projects, provide information about the background to their films, speak about their production and working methods, and answer questions from interested Berlinale visitors and journalists.

Supporting the “Retrospective” and “Homage” sections

In the past year, Glashütte Original has reinforced its commitment through its partnership with the “Retrospective” and “Homage” sections. The events of this year's Retrospective are based entirely around the theme of “Color by Technicolor”. The Technicolor process with its dramatically superimposed colour schemes, which had its heyday in the first half of the 20th century, was responsible for some great films which still captivate the public even today.

The “Homage” events at the Berlinale pay tribute to renowned directors, actors and other internationally acclaimed film professionals. The awarding of the Honorary Golden Bear is therefore one of the highlights of the Berlinale. At this year's festival, this prize will be awarded to the German filmmaker Wim Wenders on February 12. Glashütte Original has also been supporting the “Homage” section as a partner since 2014.

Premiere of five individual short films about Glashütte Original

Inspired by its partnership with the Berlinale, Glashütte Original itself invites to an exclusive film premiere this year where it will present five individual perspectives of the brand. Over the past few months, the Saxon watch manufacturer has invited the company's friends and connoisseurs to submit their own film concepts which illustrate their individual perception of Glashütte Original and show the brand from a new, somewhat unusual perspective. This has resulted in five unique short films that document very personal connections with Glashütte Original and at the same time focus on the special features of the manufactory. Glashütte Original will show these films to the public in the presence of the protagonists for the very first time at the 65th Berlinale.

Glashütte Original Lounge at the 65th Berlinale

The exclusive Glashütte Original Lounge on the 24th floor of the Kollhoff Tower will once again open its doors during the festival. With its impressive view of Berlin and the red carpet of the Berlinale Palast and its welcoming atmosphere, the Lounge has established itself as a popular meeting place.

Filmmakers and journalists from all over the world rendezvous here and meet for technical discussions, interviews and receptions. To pay homage to the winner of the Honorary Golden Bear, Wim Wenders, Glashütte Original will again host a themed exhibition in cooperation with the Deutsche Kinemathek (Museum for Film and Television). Under the motto “Der Himmel über Berlin” (The sky above Berlin), original props, photos and documents from Wender's film of the same name, produced in 1987, will be exhibited.
