New press officer at NOMOS: Ute Fischer-Graf

Ute Fischer-Graf – the new press officer at NOMOS – is a thoroughbred journalist. She was born in Dresden, has deep roots in her Saxon homeland and she most recently worked at ProSieben in Munich.

Luxury watch manufacturers Ebel and Zenith dismiss employees

(01/2009) The economic crisis has an ever increasing impact on the watch industry. On 27 January 2008, the watch manufacturers Ebel and Zenith from western Switzerland have announced the dismissal of a total of approximately 50 employees. Zenith and Ebel´s reduction of staff is likely to be only the beginning of a whole series of dismissals in the watch industry.

Markets have collapsed Montres Villemont files for bankruptcy

(01/2009) The commercial crisis also takes its toll on timepiece industry. The watch manufacturer Villemont SA from Vernie in Switzerland is the first casualty. The company with 14 employees had to turn over their financial statements to the Geneva commercial court and declare bankruptcy. The main reason for the insolvency is that the company's most important markets in Asia and Eastern Europe have collapsed.

Asian Company Takes Over Milus International SA

(01/2009) Already in October 2008, Chow Tai Fook acquired Milus International SA. The manufacturer of watches was part of the Peace Mark Group since 2002. Last month, the former owner was placed under provisional liquidation. For the Chow Tai Fook Group based in Hong Kong (CTF Group) the acquisition of Milus is the unique opportunity to complement its portfolio of luxury products with a well-established and luxury watch brand.

Movado Group is mourning the passing of Gedalio Grinberg

(01/2009) Gedalio “Gerry” Grinberg died on January 4, 2009 at age 77. Grinberg was founder and chairman of the Board of the Movado group. He came to the United States in 1960 after Castro's takeover where he became the exclusive distributor for Piaget and Corum watches in America and founded the North American Watch Company, which today is known as Movado Group.

Katrin Roth joins Maurice Lacroix

(12/2008) Katrin Roth has joined the watch manufacturer Maurice Lacroix in Zurich as International PR & sponsorship manager. Among other duties, the 33-year-old has been assigned with the establishment of an international PR network in a total of 60 countries where the luxury brand is marketed.

Bruno Maier to be new CEO of Rolex

(12/2008) Bruno Maier, who was finance director of Rolex since 2006, takes over as CEO of the Swiss company. The company spokeswoman Dominique Tadion confirmed that to the newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung this weekend. Meier has been employed at Rolex since 2005. The 54-year-old previously ran the Swiss branch of Deutsche Bank in Geneva and was member of the board of directors of German stock exchange. Apparently, the board of directors of Rolex was of the opinion that they needed a good number-cruncher now to get a handle on the costs again.

The HUBLOT Boutique opens in Geneva

(12/2008) Today, in Geneva, the world capital of watchmaking, Hublot opened its first dedicated boutique in Switzerland. At the heart of the leading luxury brands area, Hublot will present its entire exclusive collection. After inaugurating its first world boutique in the rue St-Honoré in Paris in 2007, this year the brand celebrates Christmas on home ground!

A. LANGE & SÖHNE opens store in Tokyo

(10/2008) Since the market launch in 1995 the handcrafted timepieces of A. Lange & Söhne have enjoyed increasing popularity with Japan’s sophisticated watch aficionados and collectors. They are well aware of the level of craftsmanship, precision and – above all – passion for watchmaking that is reflected in the “A. Lange & Söhne” signature. However, it is a long way from Tokyo to the idyllic watchmaking town of Glashütte, not far from the gates Saxony’s baroque capital Dresden.

Exclusive watch brand from Saxony A. Lange & Söhne takes on the 500th employee

(07/2008) 19-year-old Nadine Görgl starts work today for Lange Uhren GmbH, making her the 500th employee to be taken on by the company. She also did her watchmaking apprenticeship in Glashütte and will be working in the final adjustment section of this traditional manufactory. She starts work for the exclusive watch brand from Saxony along with eleven other talented young watchmakers, of which seven are graduates of the company's in-house Watchmaking School.

First single-brand shop Grand Opening of New Hublot Shop in Plaza 66 of Shanghai

(02/2008) Swiss watch brand, Hublot, boldly ushered its first single-brand shop in Asia Pacific region to Plaza 66 of Shanghai. The grand opening ceremony was held at its new shop in the evening of February 18 2008 whereas the Private Dinner held at the Bund Ballroom of Hyatt on the Bund in Shanghai at night also received tremendous support from over 100 guests, including glamorous celebrities and socialites such as Mr Donnie Yan, the contemporary action movie star.

(11/2007) Girard-Perregaux advertising campaign has been awarded by the Jury of the “Prix Suisse de la campagne horlogère 2007”, with a special prize for its concept. With “WAIT”, Girard-Perregaux chose to re-assert the value of time. For the really good things in life, the most precious ones, the rarest, the authentically unique ones, all need time. Time for them to be created, or simply for being understood. For those who can foretell their immense value, it’s well worth waiting for all the time that is needed.
