New watch brand Louis George Luxury watches engraved by master engravers

(08/2009) At present, the smallest handcrafted engraving of a Prussian eagle is on the movement of a wristwatch. The engraving is no bigger than a match head and belongs to the fine art of German engraving. A master engraver needs several days to finish a movement by Louis George.

Vacheron Constantin demonstrates its superlative mastery of the watchmaking art

(07/2009) The tonneau or “barrel” shape, explored by Vacheron Constantin since 1912. In 1889, the Geneva-based manufacturer produced its very first wristwatches and also began charting new stylistic territory, in step with the major artistic movements characterising the dawn of the 20th century. In turn elongating, curving, embellishing or paring down the case according to the inspiration of the moment, Vacheron Constantin already introduced departures from exclusively round designs in 1912, starting with the famous tonneau or “barrel” shape.

Introduced in Baselworld 2009 FRANC VILA FVa15 Column Regulator Automatique

(07/2009) Introduced in Baselworld 2009, the FVa15 Column Regulator joined the FRANC VILA collection with the aim to create a contemporary interpretation of this classic complication used by watchmakers to set time in the watches. This is also the first FRANC VILA timepiece using meteorite in the dial, combined with sapphire glass. While maintaining the characteristic “esprit unique” shape in the watchcase this timepiece stands out due to the asymmetrical column design of the dial, which allows to see the movement beating inside.

PIERRE DEROCHE - GrandCliff TNT Royal Retro

(07/2009) Pierre DeRoche has created the first movement able to house six retrograde seconds mechanisms. While this complication has been introduced to provide an element of fun, it also reveals a totally original approach : all the retrograde hands in this model are driven by gears rather than cams and, thanks to a strip-spring that has replaced the classical balance-spring system, return to their initial positions after “passing on the baton” to the next retrograde hand.

New era FORTIS watches fly to ISS

(06/2009) The ISS Expedition 20 marks a new era in space exploration with the first six-person crew living and working on the ISS supported by an international team, both on the ground and in orbit.
