Dresden’s International CongressGlashütte Original Wins Saxon State Prize for Design

The traditional Saxon luxury watch manufactory Glashütte Original was awarded the sought-after Saxon State Prize for Design 2005 during a ceremony that took place at Dresden’s International Congress on November 30th, 2005. Presiding over the award ceremony was Saxon State Minister for Economics and Labor, Thomas Jurk.

„Being honored with the Saxon State Prize for Design fills us with a great deal of pride. This award is a great honor for us and an added motivation for our employees. Without their knowledge and talent, such an exceptional timepiece would never have been possible," commented Dr. Frank Müller, president of Glashütte Original, the award ceremony.

For the PanoMaticChrono, this is already the second award in this year. In the spring it was voted Watch of the Year 2005 by the readers of the German watch specialist magazine ArmbandUhren and the German national newspaper Welt am Sonntag. The Saxon State Prize for Design 2005 honors exceptional performances in the areas of product and communication design and was awarded for the tenth time this year. A total of 191 candidates sent in their applications for this competition. The Glashütte Original manufactory used the platinum version of the PanoMaticChrono as its applicant. An eight-person international expert jury voted the winners at the beginning of October. Their opinion on this masterpiece was phrased as follows: "The outstanding handcrafted precision, the conscious choice of the materials, and an open design awakening the inquiring mind of its wearer, and giving a free view of its fascinating mechanics, are united in this watch to create a desirable luxury object."
