The beauty of mechanical timekeeping Christine Hutter: Founder and CEO of Grossmann Uhren GmbH

It was in 1986, just after having earned a Bachelor’s degree, when Christine Hutter first discovered the beauty of mechanical timekeeping instruments. As she started her apprenticeship with master watchmaker Wilhelm Glöggler in Munich, he showed her old pendulum clocks, pocket watches, and chronographs with fantastic movements that had ranked among the best and finest calibres in the 19th and early 20th centuries. She was confronted with horological rarities like these in the repair workshop, where she began to restore old timepieces within a matter of months. She single-handedly crafted parts such as winding stems and also replaced teeth and pinions.

The Moritz Grossmann Benu projects a distinctive personality and discreet elegance. Its conspicuous facet is that it always remains inconspicuous. It takes a second look to discover the assets of this extraordinary timepiece: a delicate rose-gold bezel frames the solid-silver dial with its crisp Arabic numerals and the fine-tipped brown-violet hands. They have the same hue as the annealed screws that are visible on the surface of the calibre.

A Contribution to Watch Culture Sixth Class of Watchmakers Begins Education at Glashütte Original’s Alfred Helwig School of Watchmaking

Selected out of over 200 applications twelve beginning watchmakers began their education at Glashütte Original’s Alfred Helwig School of Watchmaking August 21st, 2006, at 9:30 am. With a plea to their honesty and commitment Glashütte Original’s managing director of production Günter Wiegand turned the new apprentices into the hands of Uwe Bahr and his educational team during a formal ceremony. This is the fifth class to go through the school since its opening in 2001.
