OMEGA: the timekeeperLet the Youth Olympic Games begin!

OMEGA has served as Official Timekeeper of the Youth Olympic Games since the inaugural edition in Singapore in 2010 and will again be on hand at every venue to time, measure, record, display and distribute the results of each competition for all 28 sports, including the programme’s two newest events, golf and rugby.

3500 athletes between 15 and 18

More than 3500 talented, dedicated athletes between the ages of 15 and 18 will take part in the Youth Olympic Games. No one illustrates the strength of the field and the quality of the performances at the Games better than OMEGA brand ambassador Chad Le Clos. The South African swimmer won five medals at the inaugural edition in Singapore in 2010 and went on to be a gold medallist at the London 2012 Olympic Games only two years later.

Chad Le Clos and another member of the OMEGA family, golfer Michelle Wie, are both Youth Olympic Games ambassadors and will have the opportunity to share their own experiences with the young participants at the Games.

Chad Le Clos: a huge stepping stone

Chad reflected on the importance of the Youth Olympic Games, saying, "The Games in Singapore were a huge stepping stone for me and helped me enormously in preparing for the pressures of my first Olympic Games in London. But more than the sport, the memories and friends that I made will last forever, and I'm excited to be part of the YOG experience once again."

Michelle Wie: the importance of having a dream

Michelle, who won her first Major earlier this year, is excited about her role and said, "I feel so honoured to be part of the Youth Olympic Games. I'm hoping to teach young people to have fun with their game, to be competitive, to really want something and to realise the importance of having a dream. I think it's really important to inspire young people to take up sport."
