Ten years Swedish Match CupOfficial Timekeeper OMEGA celebrates

The Swedish Match Cup is a highlight in the international sailing calendar, attracting crews of the highest calibre. Official Timekeeper OMEGA is proud to celebrate ten years of the event. The race course of the Swedish Match Cup lies along the cliffs that make up the southern shore of Marstrand Island. These cliffs serve as a natural stadium with the capacity of a Super Bowl arena. Sailing is rarely a true spectator sport, but in this case, the cheering and applauding of the crowds are highly audible and can really spur on the crews. In addition, the commentator and his expert advisers can have live contact with the umpires. This is what makes the event unique and what prompts world class sailors to fight to be in the line-up for the Swedish Match Cup.

OMEGA's role as Official Timekeeper is key to the proceedings and the importance of the presence of the brand was emphasised through widespread media coverage of the event, notably through televsion broadcasting featuring the OMEGA logo and a one-hour special feature programme showcasing the event on Swedish national television. During the race itself, a MAX2 branded motorboat brought retailers close to the sailing action in which nerves and stamina were put to the test. A press conference followed, in which those taking part were able to comment on the event. British Chris Law, winner of the Open Class, said, "It's been a privilege to sail with a team working like a fine tuned F-1 engine in the boat. I'm extremely pleased with my week here and will be happy to come back next year to defend the title".

Marie Björling from the Swedish club GKSS won her class – The Swedish Match Women's Trophy – for the second year running. She was clearly very happy with her performance: "This felt as good as last time, but for different reasons. Then, because we defeated three-time winner Dorte Jensen from Denmark. Now, because we had our revenge on Malin from the Swedish National Championship this spring," she enthused.

The winners were delighted to be presented with an OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra watch at the prize-giving ceremony. Then, competitors and guests enjoyed a cocktail organised by OMEGA. The prestigious Swiss watch manufacturer is delighted to hold the role of Official Timekeeper of the Swedish Match Cup and looks forward to its continued involvement in the event in years to come.
