The world’s largest OMEGA Flagship Store was officially opened today in the prestigious Shanghai shopping district of Nanjing Road. The occasion was also used to celebrate the Olympic spirit in China ahead of the 2008 OIympics and OMEGA’s historic role as an official timekeeper at 21 Olympiads since 1932.
With a retail area of 450 sq. metres, the new OMEGA Flagship Store in Shanghai is the world’s largest. The store will carry the most comprehensive selection of OMEGA products in Asia, including the Bijoux Jewelry line. Located in the premier shopping district of Shanghai at 1111 Nanjing Road West, Jing An District, the new store serves as a convenient delivery point for OMEGA’s world-class customer services including in-store watchmakers. The Flagship Store fosters an ideal atmosphere for collectors and enthusiasts with an OMEGA Library, exhibitions of pieces from the OMEGA Museum in Switzerland and a wine and cigar corner for leisurely shopping and VIP service. The luxurious new Nanjing Road West store will be a true haven in the heart of Shanghai for OMEGA enthusiasts and devotees of the watchmaker’s art.
In 1932, OMEGA became the first sole official timekeeper for an Olympic Games at the Los Angeles Summer Games. In 2006, OMEGA will return to this illustrious and cherished position for the Torino Winter Games. To celebrate its matchless Olympic history, OMEGA introduced two new collections at today’s grand opening, the Olympic Timeless Collection and the Torino 2006 Collection Limited Series.
To share the Olympic spirit with the people of Shanghai, a coterie of elite Chinese Olympians, many of them gold medalists, were invited to participate in today’s launch. The elite athletes attending included legendary Chinese gymnasts Li Ning and Li Chun Yang; Head Coach of Chinese Swimming Team Zhang Ah Dong; Short Track Speed Skating Olympic gold medalist Yang Yang; Olympic gold medalist swimmer Lou Xue Juan, Olympic gold medalist gymnast Liu Xuan and World 9 Balls Champion Pan Xiao Ting.
The athletes were warmly welcomed at the launch by Mr Kevin Rollenhagen, President for OMEGA China and Hong Kong. Used to wearing gold and silver, these Olympic and World Champions looked right at home modeling watches from the new OMEGA collections for the press and public at the opening ceremony.
