Part 1: A real bargain?
2 for 1: Advertisement for golden watches in the ADAC magazine
In the edition 09/2009 of the ADAC member magazine SPLENDOR SA from Zurich advertises a very special offer: 2 for 1. This means, the offer includes two quartz watches and a mechanical watch with Chinese clockwork, and if you order two watches, you only have to pay for one for 98 Euros. The advertisement awakens the impression that the offered watches watches each costs up to 199 Euros and one thus has a massive saving of more than 50 percent.
A great offer, or not?
But what kind of watches are they, and how are they advertised. Even if the watches are gold-plated and the quartz watches carry the quality label „SWISS-MADE“, is it clear that the gold-plated watches are – in our opinion – absolute starter price categories also regarding the quality. Only because a watch is gold-plated it does not mean it is valuable or expensive. It also does not help much then if the brand „Eden“ is displayed on the quartz watches, and the automatic watch carries the label „ASTRON“. That the automatic watch is called „Daydateuhr Aristo“ is however more than only curious. The German watch producer with his registered watch brand ARISTO has been around for years. So then, we ask, what is this? That other models on the homepage of SPLENDOR have names like Carriere, Orbis and President then is only slightly surprising. Who would not think of famous bands like Cartier, Oris or the special model President of the renowned Swiss watch manufacturer Montres Charmex. Coincidence or not, for us, such offers are more than questionable. A purchase coupon for 10 Euros no longer helps here. Our opinion is clear.
